ash flatbow

(1/1)

jakeas:
hello fellow archers,
i am new to this forum so be nice.  ;) i thought i would start a new hobby for the winter, so here i am. i have decided for my first project i would try and make a mountain ash flat bow. of the length of 68 in. i was just wondering if i could use the trunk from a sapling as a staithe? and if so how long should i leave it to cure?
thanks
jake

VicNova:
Leave it as long as possible. When I cure hickory staves I leave them seven feet long then cut of the ends when I am ready to build a bow.

jakeas:
ahh, ok. will see how long i can resist... thanks
