Looking for small osage stave...
« on: September 30, 2012, 06:02:14 pm »
Hi guys,

I need a straight Osage stave that is 44" long. It will be made into a plains Indian bow, and will stressed fairly high so I would prefer as few knots as possible.

If you have some please pm me. I have sinew, feathers, custom slings, some shortbow arrows, a dremel attachment and some carbon arrows I can trade among other things.

Thanks.

Jon

I was gonna reply, but then I saw you had put that dirty word in there...straight...  Wait, I might have something.  This billet is 47".  It's straight but has some reflex on one end and a little twist.  It's pretty thick.  There's one small knot dead center in the billet.  There are small cracks in the belly which will come out in thinning.  There are borer holes in the back but they only go a couple rings deep.  I would have removed them but thought they'd be good insurance against cracks in the back.

I don't really want anything.  Just like to see osage get to people who need it.

Dang, you could make 4 Plains style bows with that chunk of osage.  ;)

If you have any more osage with mild character, I could really use some. I am looking for just 1 stave that is seasoned at least a year...

Jon, shipped you out the 42"er yesterday and will have some more available next week. My source sent me a nice 51" as a gift last week, so in return I sent him a (nice flute). He emailed me tonight thanked me and told me he was going to write another song and post it on youtube using the flute. When I get the link I'll post it.
