My drawknife experience is pretty limited (my homemade drawknife made form an old tire iron and some shovel handle

), but i would imagine the curved bladed ones would be better at letting you get at a specific spot whereas the straight blades would probably be better for evening out a piece. I would also wager an experienced user would be able to wield either with comparable precision. Someone correct me if I'm off base here.

I use both ,but I use the straight the most.For the dips and dives I usually use a goose neck
scraper.

It is rounded on one end and rounded bigger on the other,really handy for dips in Osage
and other wood while chasing growth rings.I will try and get a picture and post.I get them in a cabnet scraper set from Grizzly.

I like a curved one. Just has a better feel to me. I've also become a believer at using one a little longe than I have in the past when taking off bark and sapwood. The longer knives put less strain on my wrist. keith

I tend to prefer a flat bade draw knife. When you say rounded do you mean one that would curves lightly around the bow's belly when pulled? I have another draw knife that curves like a smiley face and as a result doesn't make much or an even contact across the width of the belly. Maybe I'm not using it correctly???

Ive got three draw knives and I only use two of them the round bladed one just hangs there on the wall , I never use it for anything, then I have my high dollar on that is made by GreenLee and I dont know where the other one came from , but its old and its straight bladed and I keep it razor sharp , now My other one my green Lee I use most of the time , I use it as a scraper and it has the edges rolled for scraping. My favorite one is small and flexible. It really helps give me control.

I just thought I'd "show off" my homemade draw knife. It works pretty well, but it's hard to keep sharp. You can even see the remains of the "HONDA" logo from it's previous incarnation as a tire iron.

I thought you might want to see some of my tools,of course you don't need all this stuff to make a bow but I am a bow nut anyway.Here are the scrapers,draw knifes and files I use and some
odd and end stuff.Like I said you don't have to have all this but it dose come in handy.

I use the little files and chisels to clean out knots and little dips in the growth rings.

That's an awesome set you've amassed there pappy. I'll be collecting for some time to get all that kit.
