Thanks guys.  Bow101, not all mower blades are created equal.  U sually do teh spark test on them to check the carbon.  This one looks like teh fourth of July so it was a good one.

now isn,t that the truth
i had people bring me old lawn mower blades till hell wouldnt have it
i only found 3 out of two five gallon buckets full that were worth using

very nice knife
im really starting to appreciate the more rustic looking knives
even though it can be just as much work to execute it properly as a shiny knife

NOW, THAT IS A KNIFE! And, what is the spark test?

spark test consists of taking it to a grinding wheel and observing the sparks
usually the more the sparks look like a fourth of july  sparkler the higher the carbon content of the steel
try it with a piece of known mild steel and then an old file and you will definatly see the difference.
