Take a piece of slate,a water hose and a concrete block.Just rub the head of slate on the block with the hose trickling on it to wash away the tailings.Just keep rubbing it till you get the shape you want and the sharpness.Leave the slate point a little thicker than you would a knapped point.

i made a nice slate head i really like it but how do you get the slate sharp? Each time it starts to chip when i get down to the edge. going slower helped but how do i get a sharp edge. should i use sand paper?

David if you get a triangle file and get creative you can make some wicked serrated edges. ;D
