steel or copper rivets

If you are insistant on rivets find some heavy copper electrical ground wire and make your own rivets...but a spliced handle would be more practical and durable.

madcrow:
A couple of old broke drill bits will work in a pinch.  I did it once to reinforce the splice, but found out it wasn't needed as long as the glue joint was good.
