Noob question

(1/1)

tgtmatt:
I have my 72" red oak bow down to about 5/8 2" from the handle and about 3/8 2" inches away from the tips. I'm only getting it drawn to about 13" because i'm not sure it can handle much farther. I know it's different for every bow but what would be the average thickness of a red oak bow around my length?

aaron:
just put everything about this bow in one thread, and for future reference, use the "bows" section unless y0ou are creating an instructional post.
Your thickness is probably fine- it may be time to put on a string that is even shorter. Too long a string will make it feel extra hard to pull. Next step is a "low brace" where you put on a string about 1 inch shorter than your bow is long.
