New Coyote Skin Hat

Thanks for all the kind remarks.. I cheat on working on the tanning too.. by using a powerwasher.. Man did this coyote have the grease on it! I used a commercial degreaser too.. it's very important to remove all that grease. I did smoke it to tan it though.. pickled this skin too.. I can brain tan them but it's a bit more effort than pickling and no one seems to appreciate the effort I put into strictly braintanning them.. no one really has the money to put out for any extra effort so I just do what I can to get them done and make something with them.. I really had to laugh though at my own mistake and that' s what coyote teaches.. the front legs are on the wrong sides! the dew claws probably should be on the inside of the front legs.. I didn't notice it until I was looking at that picture.. hahaha.. by that time i"d stitched it more than I"d wanted to think about redoing it. ..

Glad to find a forum where others care!

Welcome to the forum!

primitivepaulette:
Thanks for the welcome.

This is one of my 'old' coyote hats.. and I was just noticing tonight that the front legs are on the wrong sides as well. I think it is a sign that I should probably STOP working on these bewitching creatures!

Josh Wilson:
Very cool! I'll be danged if they don't look warm!

Badly Bent:
Too cool! Nice work, those are some beautiful yotes.
