--- Quote from: Eric Krewson on March 21, 2026, 10:40:50 am ---As a footnote; I cooked all of the greens just like I always do, I always add a little cooking oil to the batch, in this case Sam's olive oil. After the greens were done and seasoned I tasted them, something was wrong, they had funky taste, I couldn't figure it out until I sniffed the olive oil bottle, it had the same funky smell, dang.

I could eat them but wouldn't look forward to it, I had put a lot of bacon and country ham in them so I dumped the full 16qt pot out in the field above the garden for the critters to eat.

I didn't pick the collards in the garden, I will salvage as many of them as I can to cook next week.

--- End quote ---

Yeah, that varnish smell! pee-yew!

Eric Krewson:
I picked the remaining collards and some kale, I cooked them mixed together less the olive oil and they came out great. I got 11 packs for the freezer so I am stocked up again. I may get  one more picking before I plow the greens under for my spring garden, with the warm weather the greens are growing like weeds, some have gone to seed.
