I also see that growing around on ramps and along interstate here in eastern VA.  Can you provide some dimensions?  Id like to try some out soon.  Also how long did you let this dry and can you remove the bark right away?

thank's guy's, Cherokee the bows 1 1/2' wide with a slightly narrowed grip, last foot or there abouts it tapers to 3/4" nocks with flipped tips, this stuff is better than red oak but it wont take a lot of reflex, for a 40# bow it's kinda snappy

I really enjoy tree of heaven wood
have a friend who comes over on weekends for working on a 64" t.o.h bow.
that particular stave stayed in the rafters in a barn for two scorching summers and its as hard as persimmon.
the grain is wide, but dense....yes you're right, it didn't reflex very well when heated and clamped,
but we've clamped it up and trying again..its still clamped.

mine had lots of reflex, didn't think it was strong enough in tension to handle it

Can you rough out bow and dry without it checking bad?  How long do you dry yours?

Cherokee I think it was about 6 mos old when I started it, then it got thrown in the corner for most of a year, why don't ya cut one and split it, then ruff one out and leave the other one alone and see what happens, not like ya cant get more of this stuff
