Hey all, thought I'd share a maple board bow I finished up a while ago.  62" ntn, 45#@26".  First try at a pyramid style, so tiller's not right on, but it shoots well.  Seems that after shooting a while the upper limb is stiffer, so I may flip it and shoot it the other way.  Backing is birch bark, and it's stained with some red ochre that I ground from hematite.  Thanks for looking.

I personally would like to see more bend near the handle. On a pyramid design I like to have the WHOLE limb working so as to relieve stress on that narrower mid limb area. Its a good looking bow though and man do I love working with maple staves

Sticknstring you're right, I subconsciously tillered like an elliptical tillered bow, with less bend at handle and stiff tips.  Learned lots though and will try again  ;D

Shooter it's holding up well.  The bark is paper thin, glued on with wood glue.  It is brittle and can flake off, but I put the poly on kinda heavy to seal it in well.

Don't look to bad, I agree though a bit more bend near the handle would be nice. I love the look of the birch bark a nice natural camo.

BTW welcome to the board and thanks for posting your bow. Where ya from?

The backing is incredible.  The bow looks to be pretty nice.  I would like to see a little more bending in the fades also, especially on the bottom limb.  Has it taken much set in the bottom limb? Justin

Justin the bottom limb shows about 1.75" string follow at rest, the top limb is at 1.5".  Thanks for the feedback everyone!

A pretty good job. Handle fades are nice. The bark backing is striking.

I can only go off the pictures, so I may be wrong.

seems stiff near the handles and just in the last third or so of the limbs.. These are in red.

Those stiffer areas make makes the yellow sections bear most of the load.

Very good job on an awsome bow I especialy like the birch bark. Was that Maple board EGE grain or flat grain?
