First point with direct percussion (what I learned)
« on: April 04, 2013, 03:13:30 am »
This is the fist time I have ever made a point not pressure flaking a flake, and I'm excited because I now feel like I can make points and knives of any size starting from bigger material. After taking the advice of others and watching many youtube vids it seems the most important thing I learned that helped me was setting up calculated platforms for almost every strike, always following a ridge. In addition what helps is abrading, abrading and more abrading ! I found that before nearly every strike I had to set up the platform and abraded it EVERY time, if I got lazy I would get hinges or crumbling edges and have to work in deeper into the point to get rid of them. I sure aint fast at this but I am pleased with this one !
