Osage hickory lam question
« on: August 01, 2013, 10:24:03 pm »
Hey guys I got a piece of Osage with pretty thin growth rings, I want to back it with hickory. I have three questions... How do you de crown A stave? What glue do you use to join the wood? And how do you recurve it

The Osage worshipers are all at Elm Hall !
So just burn it and make a bow from the Hickory , it will be way better anyway !!  >:D

I would sand it with a wide belt sander !
not everyone has that option so lets see what responses you get from them !

If it's a stave why not back it with rawhide? If you just want a HBO do a board.

I agree with JonW. Why waste a good stave to make a backed bow. Backings are for crappy staves or boards.

I case someone did not know if I run a stave though the wide belt sander when it comes out the other end it is a board !

I should have given better advise so stick to what Pat tells ya !
there are several options for backing that do  not require a flat back !!!

+2 JonW, Pat B.  Backing a perfectly good Osage stave with another wood is like putting a Ford motor in a Maserati, sure it'll run but you had a Maserati.
