What exactly are you looking for?  Thin strips of Hickory?
I've heard you can buy hickory veneers at hardware stores, as long as they're straight grained.

DarkSoul:
Nobody adviced you to glue a backing onto this stick, if that's what you're planning to do. What do you need the backing for?

im making a lightweight red oak bow for a friend and she wants the two tone of  the limbs and a dark handle , and backings are handy to have
