How do you incorporate snakeskin into a sheath?

(1/2) > >>

CherokeeKC:
Like title says I want to make a sheath with snakeskin.  I have rawhide and veggy tanned leather so I could use either of those.  I like the look of some rawhides sheaths I have seen people make however I have never made one.  I am just unsure of how I want to incorporate the snakeskin into the sheath, either glue it to the leather and make the snakeskin the outside or just have the snakeskin inlayed in front.  If you have any tips or pictures of these type of sheaths please post them.   K.C.

Seabass makes some very nice arm guards with snake skin inlayed on them.  Maybe he can give you some tips.

Pat B:
Cut the leather out just a little bigger than the shape you want it and using contact cement put glue on the leather and the skin, let them set for a few minutes then carefully lay the skin on the leather pressing it well to insure good contact. Now you can add the stitching holes , sew, trim and sand the edges smooth.

CherokeeKC:
Ok thanks Pat B.  Do you leave the scales on?

Pat B:
Remove the scales. They will discolor over time if left on.
