Well, how was it?

While some of us are members of shooting groups and hunt clubs around the nation, many of us fly it solo. Some will be dealin with sweat an skeeters, while others might worry about frostbite and snow. Any way ya slice it opening day is sacred for most of us and we all want a place to share it. Feel free to use this thread to throw out a couple lines about ur first day experience.

I'm sittin in my ground blind having walked in a few minutes too late and bumped every deer IN THE COUNTY!!! across the line.  >:(   So let's just say I've got time on my hands....  Oh well, it's a long season and it's still a pretty morning. God Bless!

It hasn't started yet but I can't wait. I'm taking my Mulberry elk sinew backed bow this go around for AZ coues WT. It starts mid October. I'm shooting reed arrows with arrow weed fore shafts. I've been tuning my arrows (four) to shoot 25-30yds. I have two arrows that are SWEEEEEEEEET! I could stand at 15yds aim, close my eyes and let them fly to within 1-2" of each other. Dead-On!
We can't shoot Stone heads but I've made 5 awesome heads from scrap leaf spring steel. They kind of resemble a GRIZZLY. 3to1 ratio BH.

Today was our opener and I consider it a success. Had a big doe and a yearling feed all around me for 15 minutes or so. I had tension on the string a few times while they were at 10 yards but never let an arrow fly. I didnt really feel right about shooting either of them. Ive shot yearlings and mama deer before on different occasions but always had a little feeling of regret afterwards so I didnt wanna have that feeling again. Plus its a long season :)

Season starts this coming Sat. (central Va) and they're calling for a high around 87. ugghh!
sweat and mosquitoes Saturday afternoon......will have to see if I can tolerate that *!%#.
But I have off every Wednesday starting next week through Thanksgiving week and have that whole
week off, so I'll have plenty of time in the woods.

PEARL DRUMS:
I have been hell bent to kill a deer with stone. I went out last night for the opening evening sit. Seen 2 does, a 6 point and one unidentified critter in the beans. I drew on the 6 point twice within 10 yards and shot him in my mind, I never do that. I have an itchy string finger and its not wise to cock it unless I plan to let it go. Im far from a trophy hunter, so Im not sure why he walked away unscathed. It was an absolute hoot all the same.
