Pottery firing experiment

Thanks guys! I didn't expect much feedback on this. :laugh:
I waxed some of the pieces now, oiled others to seal and buff them, looks nice.
stickbender, I used ret iron pigment. but since the clay containes (black and yellow) iron too, the effect is only slight on the burnt stuff. I would like to find white pigment that is not chalky.

I have to make one of those ovens just to see if I can.

I tried firing clay slinging glans in a fire. I cannot build an oven- here is what I did-
1. build roaring fire in fireplace with oak
2. when coals form toss in dried clay glans(literally made from dirt)
3. wait until red hot
4. throw some more wood on
5. keep it burning hot for an hour
6. then let it die down
next morn remove the glans from the ashes.
works good. How hard is it to build an oven like that?
