More Wood Carving

(1/3) > >>

madcrow:
Here is another wood spirit that I finished up recently.

This one was literally a year in the making, but I would carve on it some, get timed of messing with it and do something else.  Pick it up in a month or so and start again.  A simple double vine with a few leaves, carved on cherry.  I have grown to hate cherry for carving.

I did a bit of under cutting for a more 3 D look.

Pat B:
Cool carving. That will make a nice walking stick.

mcginnis6010:
yea i hate carving cherry i personally think its one of the most difficult wood species to carve. Personally i love carving ERC and i also like ash and poplar too.

RidgeRunner:
Nice carving Madcrow.  I can see how that would take some time.

I have carved wooded spoons from Wild Cherry.  I thought I liked it. ;)
Have also carved spoons from Ash.  Never tried ERC or Poplar.

ERC is real easy to carve you just gotta watch out for knots. Alots of time you can use those knots to your advantage depending on what your carving. I usually use it for bowls and cooking utensils.
