Yes flunking they are heat treated.

I have been trying to think how I would describe how I do it. I will give it a shot but it probably will not make since.
Note: The front and the back do not look the same.
I lay the point front side down. At the center of the leather lay it across the point and through the notches. Now bring both sides across the front take it over the top and under the leather on the back side, do not cross the leather in this step.  Now go back through the notches and bring it to the front again. This time cross over on each side and weave under the leather and go straight up from the point. I do not tie it I clamp it together. As you see from the pictures I have been sliding a bead down to hold it in place.
