Need to extend the tips of a board/stave for recurves.
« on: July 07, 2014, 01:17:16 am »
What is best here.  I'm making a bow for a friend.  High draw weight if I can manage.  I can back with raw hide or bamboo.  Probably the latter.

I already "v" spliced the center.  Had to redo it and lost some length.

Glue on like cheater shahs under the backing?

 "V" splice the tips on?

Om don to 64"I think.  He's a short bear of a man.  I made him a 70 lb bow that Chrysled then exploded.  That was hickory.

V-spliced siyah is all I know to do. It will, of course, have to be static around the splice. Someone should pop in with better information, but I think you're on the right track ;)

Black locust. Black locust everywhere.
Mollegabets all day long.
Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.

V splice.....v splices can bend no problem! Not that you want your recurves to be bending but..... ;)
Why did the hickory bow break?

I'm not certain... it was shooting fine when I gave it to him, but I hadn't shot it in.  IT chrysaled and I tried a torges patch .. it failed dramatically.
