notching question

(1/2) > >>

beartail:
what gets better results. copper or steel. does a nail work better than a copper wire when your notching.

Chippintuff:
For me, soft steel is the best, but I usually use pressure. My punch results are usually disasters, but my pressure is good. I think that most of the punchers use bone, antler or copper.

Ghost Knapper:
I like a copper pressure flaker for notching, either pounded flat to be narrower or just kept to a sharp point.

1442:
I like a flattened steel nail for deep notching. Same type nail in an ishi stick for shallow notches.
I broke the ear off this one due to a dumb mistake, I had it upside down and punched from the wrong side, then used it for practice.

mullet:
I use a copper nail hammered flat like the nail above for punch notching and a horse shoe nail for most of the rest.
