notching question

what gets better results. copper or steel. does a nail work better than a copper wire when your notching.

For me, soft steel is the best, but I usually use pressure. My punch results are usually disasters, but my pressure is good. I think that most of the punchers use bone, antler or copper.

I like a copper pressure flaker for notching, either pounded flat to be narrower or just kept to a sharp point.

I like a flattened steel nail for deep notching. Same type nail in an ishi stick for shallow notches.
I broke the ear off this one due to a dumb mistake, I had it upside down and punched from the wrong side, then used it for practice.

I use a copper nail hammered flat like the nail above for punch notching and a horse shoe nail for most of the rest.

Dang! i never notched anything that deep! id need a light saber flaker to do that. good work. where do you get copper nails? Ive looked a hole in every shelf around here for them with no luck. probly have to order on line right?

I made them order them at Home Depot. I asked to see the manager and wanted to know how I was going to nail the copper flashings and gutters they were selling without the nails. ;D
