Q6 in recent PA Flintknapping FAQ
« on: January 22, 2015, 08:31:30 pm »
I had to laugh at the question and mostly Patrick's response!

Q: Will you tell me where you collect your free rock?

A: Nope. Now you're talkin' crazy talk.

Had to have been mullet submitting that question ;D

Well, it wasn't Eddie that asked me that question.

Actually, I tell people the general area where I get mine.  I don't tell them the exact spot.  I don't know if that's more aggravating than not telling them at all.  Probably is...  heheh   >:D

Be careful is you take pictures of your favorite collecting site. I say that because my wife and I also collect sea glass. We were talking to another person about their favorite beach to collect sea glass and she would not tell us. However, she also sold pictures and some of the pictures were beach scenes. I looked at the pictures and picked out a couple land marks and was also able to pick out a couple navigation buoys off the beach. I then used google earth to scan beaches in the area and was able pinpoint the beach. We walk there often collecting sea glass. So if you don't want other rock hounds finding your hunting grounds, be careful what pictures you show.

Steven, Yep, that's especially true if you look for arrowheads.  People will swoop down and be all over your spot with some kind of supernatural radar.  The spot will be picked clean faster than you can say, "artifacts".
