Will this grip cause joint damage?

That's a pinch grip with the index finger and the middle finger drawing the bow.  The index finger does two jobs: pinches the arrow along with the thumb and also helps to hold the string back.  If the ring finger was also helping to draw back the string, it would be called a tertiary grip.  Many NA tribes used this grip (shown in the picture).

The soreness should be in your finger tips (index finger and middle finger) and not in the joints.

I shoot about like that and my hands have been fine.  I don't shoot a lot at a time though.  Probably no more than ten shots in a session.

I took a 3 day break and feel better now.  I guess 2hrs of shot after shot is too much.  My finger tips are pretty tough now so I don't get the soarness in the pads just some soarness in the joints when I put in 1.5hr+ non-stop shooting.
