I always forget to abrade... And as long as the bow bust isn't between now and mid may I'll be there! I'm a soldier on fort hood and had guard last year so I couldn't make it. Wanna get a bow made and a few arrows. Got the fletchings, made plenty of trad arrows including hand planing a few dozen. The goal is to eventually do some primitive hunting.

Fort Hood aye? Well... Your in luck! Go into Killeen until you find the river,creek whatever it is and there you will find your tonnage. There's a city park where the creek and a main road intersect, that's where I picked most of mine or you can follow the gravel bars for miles down. Cool looking stuff  :).

Seriously Cowboy?! I've taken my kid to that park so many times. Never checked for rock though. It's on the eastern side of town right? There's a concrete path under the bridge connecting the park to both sides of the road?

I think so, it wasn't that developed when I was there. You can walk it up into the neighborhoods or drive around to all the crossings even below the dam and outside of town. It's all in there, just look for the brownish rocks. Pick ya out a likely hammer stone and check em all out. You'll find some premo but you'll have to cook it. Let us know :).
