winter hucka-berry

I live in southeast alabama and there a tree i use for arrows My dad says its winter hucka berry It has red bark is really hard and heavy A 30'' 11/32 shaft weighs about 600 grains does anybody else use this wood for arrows. Or Maybe even bow wood if you could find a straight enough stave.

About one year back I cut several (12-15) huckleberry shoots.
Thay have yet to be made into arrows.  Guess I have been Lazy.

I to have noticed that this stuff is hard and heavy.  Very similar to dogwood.

It is my understanding that some people call this same tree/bush sparkelberry.
I do not know which is the correct comman name.

I am in Northwest Alabama so we are most likely talking about the same bush.
