Man you bought one of those cannon balls!? That's some killer hornstone...like really hard to find killer. I would just peck on those bigger flakes and buy some novaculite or something more common, and set the big piece aside until you get the hang of it more. I'm probably already too late tho. Haha.

I haven't really worked on it since these pictures. I've pretty much came to the same conclusion. It's been nice to actually work on some rock though, because it puts some physicality to what I've read.

Looks like you're gonna get the bug! It's pretty fun. I'd use that nice sized flake and try percussion and bop it flat and thin. Then pressure. Just use it as you play piece till you get some common stuff unless your a natural and you make a point out of that piece. I believe you could if you remember what you've read and think before every flake or abrading.
