WS, I have heard about deer capes to try and sneak up on other deer but have never done it for fear of getting shot.

Well, I hunt deep in the heart of "Yee-Haw, Duh-Hut" country (North GA), and it's not uncommon for "deer hunters" to shoot at movement rather than actual animals. If you try this method, I can tell you it works, just make your deer cloak out of blaze orange, deer can't see color anyway.

Considering the number of cows, horses, and mules that get shot by "deer hunters" every year, I'd be leery too.
