Hummingbird Point:
I feel a little guilty about putting up pictures of big quartzite points a week ago and making it sound like I just decided to sit down one evening and pop a couple of those out.  Reality is more like this most days:

I found a couple of small cobbles that looked promising and brought them home to crack open, 'cause its like momma always said, "cobble knapping is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get."  One cobble was junk and went straight to the chip pile.  The second was:

Pure quartz, an okay but not great grade.  Worth a shot.

The other half came off like this.  Always lots of cracks, or fault lines or whatever they are in this material such that big pieces become small fast.  You call already see that happening here.  Lots of little artifacts made of quartz, not too many big ones.

Forty five minutes latter, these:

And, of course, these:

Tracker0721:
That's really impressive. How sharp can you get those? There's no knappable rock where I grew up but a lot of tribes who lived there for a long time and that stuff is everywhere!

turbo:
Great job getting those points out of that, nicely done.

caveman2533:
Quartz is very sharp, easy to get sharp, wicked stuff. Nice job Keith.

PeteDavis:

Silica flows through yer veins.
