Tag Team Art
« on: December 02, 2015, 01:56:57 pm »
My X and I collaborated on this piece and a few others.
She was mostly schooled at lacquer painting in Russia.
She is now a premiere wood sculptor as well.
PM me if you want to view her web site.
I am not sure I want to put the bite on this gator.
(insert antler teeth)?? Any ideas?

Wow, very nice carving Zuma. 8)

As for the teeth, I can't really say, maybe make some of the same wood and compare what you think looks better, teeth are a bit tricky in my opinion , too much attention drawn to them and after a while it might seem like its smiling at you  ;D
I'm sure it would look good whatever you decide.

 I sent a p.m..

Very nice carving Zuma,  8)

(...yeah...scary hedgehogs...but thankfully more noble champion of the garden than a fearsome predator, they make short work of slugs,, greener veggies and no lung worm for pets to catch off them.  :D)

I checked out that site, really nice work, the turtle looks real and I love the large natural figure carving 'Aphrodite' which looks stunning. I've yet to tackle a large lump of wood but looking forward to having a go.
Thank you for sharing, great to see nice work like this, I hope to get back on the carving projects by the weekend and that has renewed my keenness.

That is a nice carving, the eyes are very lifelike, nice to look at. 8)
I'm sure that exhibition will be awesome, enjoy Zuma  :)
I'll have to have a look over the local copse and see what's been cut this year and left laying around and look out for some large pieces. I've got a couple of ideas for some wall mounted bow racks, I'll probably mug a tree or two for branch bow wood while I'm over there  :D,
(I like the Native American themed artwork and was thinking a bowrack with a white buffalo out of the Holly I got set into a nice slab of some kind, something I'm thinking over.)
I got a whole lot of new ideas now swimming in my head ;D, thanks again.

The white Buffalo. I can't wait to see that. 8)
As iconic as Moby Dick.
A Big Horned Sheep is on my bucket list.

That will look great Zuma, will you carve the horns or set real ones in? Look cool either way.

Ruddy
Stetting those big natural horns in a wooden bust would be
a tremendous challenge. And for me, to even imagine
getting them in my hands would be wishfull thinking.
I would have to carve the curl with and against the grain.
And then try to give them a symmetrical and layered/scaled look.
Kind of intimidating for this country boy.
But hot damn, like the White Buffalo it would be awesome.
Thanks for your support and interest.
I wish I would have learned the fleur-de-lis by a master
in the begining. Oh well.

I certainly see the horns being a major challenge Zuma, definitely great fun to attempt though.  ;D 8)
I hope that goes well for you and look forward to seeing it, (be cool to see how you go about it in the stages of production.)
Yep, getting taught by a master is a whole heap better, all the bad habits I got must slow the whole thing down, like self taught driving old habits can be hard to break. Glad I got the sharpening techniques nailed though, things are a whole lot better.
(I got a little more bow work to finish up, taken a little longer than expected, and then back on the carving, hope to post updates in the next few days. My carvings feel somewhat dinky now.  ;D

No doubt about sharp tools Ruddy. ;)
Don't worry about the dinky aspect. :)
If you can do that then massive is a piece of cake. O:)
We made it down to the Rodin exhibit today.
Great time. I'll try to get some photos up soon.

Here are some photos from the museum.
Rodin is not all that primitive so I'll only include a
few of his works.
We also took in some other really primitive work
you might enjoy.
