ishi stick and flaker coppers?

Where do yall find the copper rods for flakers and ishi sticks? How thick does a rod have to be so it wont just bend?

I think most folks are using grounding wire from a home store. When I copper knapped I think I bought a larger and smaller size. I twisted mine to harden it. These guys will help ya.

A lot of guys use #4 copper ground wire or copper nails.

We have a metal recycling company that buys scrap but also sells it.  I stop by there once or twice a month looking for solid copper rounds and they have a 4' by 4' box of assorted copper scraps which include the ground wire mentioned.  It has a natural hardness to it as some of it has been in the ground for many years.

I have also found copper rounds as large around as 3".  Used copper costs me $4.80 a pound.

The copper nails last longer but i mostly use #4 copper and twist it by putting one end in a vice and the other end i chuck in a drill motor and spin it til it breaks loose
