BrianS:
WOW! What a weekend. The weather turned out better than the forecast. We had 49 Adult shooters, a few kids and some folks who just stopped by to see what was happening. On Friday afternoon we held the first annual Boss Gobbler Shoot. The Boss Gobbler Shoot went several rounds and was finally won by Rob Marcotte with a incredible shot. Rob will now get to keep the Hawkeye Traveling Turkey Call and record his hunts in the log book before returning the call next year for another Hawkeye Member to win and hunt with. At Dusk on Friday, we held the one log primitive fire contest. Eric Schultz had his water boiling before all of the other Competitors and won a real nice knife that was donated by Joe Carbone. Unlike the traveling turkey call, Eric gets to keep the knife forever. A special prize of a take down buck saw made by Kevin was awarded to Colton. All of the leftover fires from each Competitor were added to a Memorial campfire for those who have passed. Later Friday Night, Dino (who is Nuisance Trapper" put on a skinning demo. A large crowd watched as he went over skinning and tanning hides. Early Saturday morning the Hawk and Knife throw was held. Tom and Pam have added some new twists and did a great job once again with it. Tom and Pam took the time to instruct some of the throwers who were new to it and even lent out their own hawk and knife. Brian Weiss won a real fine hawk for placing 1st place in the Hawk and Knife Event. The Hawk was also donated by Joe Carbone.  Next we had the Woodswalk which was run by Dino, Eric and Dino's son Colton. The scenario for this years Woodswalk was "Mountain Man Free Trappers in Bear Country". Those Boys put the Competitors through all sorts of scenarios including getting mauled by a bear and losing the use of your arm and dominate eye, making primitive cordage, throwing rabbit sticks, looking for various plants that were out of place on the course, navigating direction, building fires, identifying various animal skulls and of course shooting a bow! It was a hell of a lot of fun and was won by Kevin Raybould. Kevin won a handmade reed quiver that was made by Dino's Wife. Kevin already has a similar quiver so he gave it to the 2nd place finisher! Very generous Kevin. Thank You! Saturday evening the Camp Pot Luck Dinner was held and it was Fantastic! If you left there hungry it was your fault! Kevin donated a hand carved spoon as a prize to the best dish (which was voted on by all who attended). It turned out a tie between Kevin and Dino and Kevin awarded the spoon to Dino for his Shepards pie. Door prizes were given out and two sets of special Kids arrows were given out. The arrows were made by Gerry Lee.  After Dinner we took a group picture for a Get Well Card for our Friend Ed who is normally at the Spring Thaw Shoot. On Sunday morning the Clout Shoot was held. I do not have the Winners name as I missed that event. Thank you to all who attend. Thank you to all of the Hawkeye Members who helped out and Thank you to all who donated the prizes. Here are a few pictures. More to come as I get them organized. Special thanks goes out to John Wiehe for taking many of the photos.
Take care, Brian
