cowboy:
Do you have an Ishi stick made up or just a hand flaker? With an Ishi you can go along the edge and pop off all the little platforms at least half way or further across the piece (really builds up some pressure before popping) takes a lot of practice but after awhile you'll have it down pat.
I'll get my points roughed out and thinned with percussion then it's pressure the rest of the way out - just to give the face that nice wavy look and pick the deltas along the edge to git em sharp :).

richpierce:
Glad that stuff is working for you- did you heat treat it or work it raw?

lowell:
Rich,

I did heat treat some of it.  The one on the left is treated and the right one wasn't.  Don't know if I did a real good job of heat treating.  Some broke and all at least turn a bit of a pink tint!!

I will treat more when I get a chance... I like the pinkish look and seems a bit glossier!!

cowboy....I have an Ishi stick but not sure I have as much strength in wrist that I need. Or maybe I need to learn more technique than just brute strength. ???   I'm learning when to quit with percussion and begin pressure!!

Seems like every one I try, I learn a little more!!!!! ;)

Yeah! The withdrawl symptoms are horrible!!!!!  ;D

cowboy:
Thiers a lot of technique involved with using an ishi stick. You can actually let the hand that is holding the stick go limp during popping the flake - it's the other hand holding the preform that is doing the strenuous work (course thier's other techniques). You'll undoubtably get better with time :). Hopefully you'll stick one of those monster bucks you got up there with one this year ;D.
