ever try the ulna bone for pressure flaking?
Ed Brooks:
Like a lot of other ABO knappers I use an ulna bone for my notches. I have started to use the ulna for pressure flaking too. I just turn the bone sideways and pressure flake with it. now most of my points are birdies and I do like obsidian so I'm not sure of the results on other stone. Give it a try you may like it, I use it more than antler now. Ed
JW_Halverson:
Ima stand here and wait for iowabow to come a-runnin'! ::)
iowabow:
Sounds great show us some pictures!
Dakota Kid:
I find I get the best results with my ABO tools on obsidian and glass. I prefer the ulna for pressure flaking and antler for percussion. As the stone's hardness increases, I tend to increase the hardness of my tools. When I work rhyolite, I usually end up with a small ball peen hammer after getting frustrated when I can't get a flake with anything else. I may end up making a little hammer-like bopper from a small hard hammer stone and trying that.
Ed Brooks:
Not a lot to show but I'll give it a try. This is a small piece of gravel in most piles, but I think there may be a birdie in there. Ed
