Draw knife for a new bowyer

Nothing wrong with an inexpensive draw knife or a new draw knife.  But if it is new and inexpensive, it will be a piece of cheap soft steel that can't take the bark off a balsa tree. 

Sounds like you got some awesome wood in that hackberry.  I have had outstanding results with it and love the look of the micro rings between annual rings!

That was my thinking. Northern tool was the only one close but I don't trust it and money is tight so I'd rather trade for a good one.

I've seen very little about hackberry but I'm glad it's that good of wood! It's all over the place down here in Florida
