Heat treating hornstone?

(1/2) > >>

Stringman:
Does anyone know if hornstone can be heat treated?

mullet:
I've never heard of anybody needing too. But I guess it might be worth a shot.

Outbackbob48:
Scott, never tried it but according to Mark Bracken's website  Kentucky hornstone is on the no list  along with Tenn. Ft. Payne and the Dover and NY. Onondaga and a few others :( Check out his site a lot of info on heat treating recipe's. Bob

Stringman:
Well I've never heard of it either so I probably oughta just leave well enough alone. Get whatcha got sorta thing.

Zuma:
I agree with the others. I have collected and viewed
quite a bit of hornstone out on the Ohio River.
Indiana and Kentucky. I never did see any heated debitage.
Throwing a few hunks in with some other stuff could be
interesting?
