Chippintuff:
Hog hide is thick and disperses the force of direct percussion knapping blows. I am not familiar with deer hide and how thick and tough it is. I had a good hog hide till I had a lapse of thinking and burned it with a blow torch. Been missing that thing ever since.

Deer rawhide, like goat, is thin but strong.
