New Braintanned Buckskin Shirt
Peatreg:
Just finished up this old style, two-hide buckskin shirt for a customer. His request was that it incorporated symbolism of a horse and crow. Centered on the front and back is a black crow and painted on the sleeves are a series of horse tracks. These would have been a count of individual horses captured from an enemy or maybe a count of horse capturing raids the warrior went on. Long buckskin fringe wrapped at the top with sinew decorate the shirt. Lots of fringe was a sign of affluence. The upper half and the sleeves are colored with red pigment mixed with hide glue. On the back of the shirt on either side are two ermine hides attached to the shirt with a single blue padre bead with old style hawk bells
