turkey and deer hair Roach for head ornament

(1/2) > >>

swamp monkey:
I am working on a hair roach in the style of the eastern woodland tribes.  Their roaches were more round and not as long as what the plains people created.

I needed a tying job made out of a board
A shuttle for my thread
some button thread and a needle
some large thickness red yarn
cotton string
8 turkey beards
2 deer tails and some Rit Dye

swamp monkey:
All three rows of tied hair are sewn on the yarn base now.  I need to make a spreader and maybe attach a feather.  I also need to craft a roach stick for storage.

So far i have about 13 hours in this project.  Each row of hair took 3 hours to tie and was 10.5 inches in length.

I am pleased with the results considering this is my first attempt at any such thing.

Thanks for looking.

Very cool.  Great job for your first go at it.  What are you thinking about for a spreader?  There are some great ideas in the Catlin and Bodmer paintings.

Thanks.   I don't know about the spreader.  Leather would be an easy choice but I haven't given it much thought. I am open to suggestions at this point.  I just need to do some research .  Catlin and Bodmer sound like good places to start.  Thanks.
