Rhyo Axe Experiment

(1/2) > >>

Collected some Rhyolite and decided to make a quick primitive axe. Cut a hickory sapling and split it down the center. Removed some bark strips for wrapping. The sapling split was wrapped around the axe head and then wrapped with bark strip. Made a good quick weapon and chopper. A small sapling was chopped down to test it. The head did swivel a level but held strong. Was an interesting experiment.

Trapper Rob:
What kind of tools do you use to work the rhyolite?

We were collecting some rock so this axe was made in the woods with a chunk of copper by Bryan Irwin. I use stone hammer stones and bone/antler when making points.
