Ya I thought about that, when I brought it up on line it did say very rare, so still thinking about what I want to do with it.

Yeah, if it is rare I'd leave it just as it is. Anything you do will probably decrease it's value.

Over at the muzzleloader forums they constantly chide people who restore a good attic find rifle as it drops the value by 70%. Collectors want the history of the rifle intact, warts and all.

I've collected Japanese swords for a while and the worst thing you can do is clean one and not know what you are doing. To not remove any patina and mess the blade up anymore then what it is you are best to clean it with a soft cloth and vegetable oil. Machine oil will blacken the blades made during that time period. I always lightly oiled mine with Olive oil. Use Mineral oil on the wood.

Me and the wife made a short road trip this morning with a hand fulll of cash and this followed us home. It needs a little cleaning and I'm going to redo some of the storage boxes but we're happy with it.
