Level of noise (decibels) on string release?
« on: March 03, 2017, 09:28:51 am »
Hello everyone,

I just thought it would be interesting to do a test on the actual noise level of the release of a bow and compare it with numbers to another release, perhaps using different arrows of different weights or different string silencers.  I don't have a decibel meter to measure it, but I wonder if there is an app that will measure decibels....I have to check on that.  Anyway, I thought it would be interesting to see the numbers for different setups.  Would be a good resource for tuning in before hunting.

That sounds awsome. I'm sure there is an app out there that can do it. Keep us updated.

Greg,
No risk, no gain. Expand the mold and try new things.

DB Meter won't tell you as much as a frequency/spectrum analyzer.  And you will want to be in a quiet room to record. A phone mic won't give great results though

I didn't think of that.  Good point I'll have to remember to do that

I never really worried about string realease noise as much the noise the bow makes during drawing the arrow in a hunting situation but any of my primitive bows are far quitter then my FG recurve I have found the better the tiller the less noise the bow makes less energy left in the bow Im assuming in hunting situations was your concern .
If you fear failure you will never Try !
