If it was me, I'd fill the hole with turquoise filler or something similar to make it pop and have some personality  ;D excited to see it finished!

The turquoise wouldn't fit the Trade Gun style. watching this one, Josh.

Eric Krewson:
You don't want to fill the hole with anything that would draw attention to it.

Just cut you a piece with matching stripes, square up your hole into a narrow rectangle, make your patch a bit wedge shaped so it will fill the hole tightly as you push it in. All you need to fill is the outside surface with a tight plug. The inside can be filled with superglue and sawdust.

After your glue sets you can bring the extra plug wood down to the forestock contour.

I have plugged three bad places like this lately. I give them a touch-up with an artists brush and leather dye if they don't match just right after the finish is applied.

Here is one that chipped a huge hole out when I put a pin in for the trigger guard. After I got it patched you won't see it unless I point it out.

That is the most obvious and sensible solution Eric.  Thank you Sir.  It'll be a while longer now before I start back on it.  Lightning fried a bunch of stuff at the house including our well pump.  This is gonna break me for awhile.  Thank you for the interest and comments.  Josh
