Flint steel fire kit?

Any body have experience with these kits? Will texas chert throw good sparks? I dont have any actual flint but have plenty of assorted cherts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That rock should through a good spark, I would think. Try and hit some on the edge of a file and see. Ed

Clewis, all the Texas cherts that I have tried worked excellent, I have gotten everything that I have knapped with to spark even Obsidian will throw a weak spark, I never tried man made glass or toilet tanks. Get ya a good steel and have at it.  (=) Bob
