Plains Grizzly Claw Necklace
Peatreg:
Fresh of the shop floor!! Finished up this plains style grizzly claw necklace. The 24 high quality replicated claws, courtesy of Chris Bezold, are strung together and wrapped end to end with a strip of mountain lion hide. Traditionally otter hide was used due to the otters ability as a hunter. About 2/3rds down the length of the claws, white padre beads are strung between the claws and affixed to the ends is a single antique hawk bell. The split tail drop is attached to ride down the wearers back. The skin side is colored in red ocher mixed with hide glue. Attached at the top of the drop is a brain-tanned leather pouch filled with sage and colored ruddy pink with pigment powder made from a piece of crushed up catlinite. Hawks bells and strips of buckskin colored in yellow pigment and decorated with hand rolled tin cones completes the drop. Necklace including the drop is 48" in overall length. Many grizzly bears were needed to make a necklace like this as only the middle three claws from the front feet were used. Sometimes as many as 40 claws were used.
