I have just found out there is a UK species of maple, field Maple (Acer campestre), it is said to be the hardest of all European Acer species. Is it a good option for a core wood?

BowEd:
I would say it would be from your information. You could always do a density check on it.I guess all maple is diffuse pourus wood.A person can see that too.

davidjw:
I've never worked with it, but being a hard maple (wood database gives it .69 sg) I reckon it would be a mighty fine choice.

The problem is finding a good piece :)

That pretty much sums up my adventures in bow-building!
