What do you think? I'd say at least four billets in this log.

Never seen a self bow made from Ipe. I know it's good in compression, not so in tension?

There are different species of Ipe. This is whitewood but easy to see growth rings. Here it is called Tababue, in Brazil it's called Ipe. I know I smoked a chainsaw blade cutting it down.

Will do, haven't had time to split it up, yet.

Billets or bows? Are you gonna beat on quartzite and rhyolite?

I missed getting a macadamia nut log the other day by about 30 seconds.  Neighbor took his chainsaw to the center of the piece.   Would have made good billets and have been interesting.  That is some dang hard wood to cut.  I've been eyeing all the downed Ipe trees in the medians of the roads down here...

Yea, Steve there are quite a few of them down up here. This one made it through okay. Since I was going to cut it down anyway it seemed a good time to do it with the big pile of limbs already stacked by the road.

Don, bow billets.
