two points on a campout
jeffp51:
My oldest son is leaving soon for two years in Brazil. So for fall break he and I headed into the mountains to do some fishing and have some one-on-one time. I caught 10 fish the first day, so the second day, I watched him fish while I knapped these points. It was my first go at mahogany obsidian, and it fought me the whole way. the stone is more brittle than I am used to, and I needed really strong platforms to avoid step fractures. It turned out much better than I expected after the first couple of percussion blows, although I had to give up some length.
The blue point is aquarium glass, which flaked smooth as butter by comparison. It was one of those days where I begin to think I am starting to get the hang of it. A little bit.

I like those, very nice. Sounds like a great trip with your son, as well.
That blue aquarium glass looks great. Aquarium glass?

Looking good Jeff. I have the same problem with the Mahogany Obsidian. I've figured out how to work it. Like you said you have to set up strong platforms or it will crush or hinge. My biggest problem now is getting it as sharp as I'd like. Hope your son enjoys his time in Brazil

Jeff, they look pretty good to me! Just have to practice more on these warm Indian Summer days! Sounds like you had a good trip all together.
