Core
(1/1)
DC:
Does Yew make a good core?
Stick Bender:
Adam Korpowicz mentioned it in his book as a usable core wood ! Don't you live in maple country Don ?
DC:
Big Leaf Maple which isn't great bow wood but Doug Maple would probably work. I just have a bit of a stash of yew heartwood and just trying to find other uses. I'll probably Boo back most of it.
mikekeswick:
It must not have even a hint of a pin. Best with sapwood still intact and it is a pain to glue correctly. Get it very hot and use very thin glue for sizing coats, This is important.
Strichev:
I've read that it was used in composite crossbows, especially in the Holy Roman Empire.
