Another hollowed Osage.

It’s early yet, just getting to ground tiller but figured I’ll post as I go.  Currently it’s 66.5” in length.  I made the handle 5” with long fades.  We’ll see how it progresses, not rushing it through.

That's interesting.  Can you bring one of your hollow limb bows to the Classic?  I'd like to see how the limbs react when drawn.

That looks cool! Are you doing it that way because of the crown or what? I’ve seen yew that way, first Osage.

Hopefully this one will make it Clint.  Perhaps Cody will bring the other to the Classic.  I’ll bring it up with him.

Is there a homogenous crown? I have difficulties to find suitable osage staves.

Let me add what I would do, just my 2 cents.
The bow is very long for a HLD and it is osage, or are you going for extra draw length?
Hard to see exactly but the ridges seem to be too thick, well I know you are in the work.

I'm hooked and will follow this thread ...

I was hoping to see you chime in Simson, I'll take your advice under consideration.  I could easily remove 4" or more of length from this bow.  What do you think is most effective for length?  I draw 27" so plenty of room.

The stave's back is fairly flat, so my plan is to tiller the stave by trapping the back a bit and continuing to remove material from the ridges as I progress. 

For an ideal HLD design what do you think would be the best diameter stave cut?  I'm thinking of trying it with Sea Grape.  I suppose it varies from wood to wood, naturally.

Steve, for a 27 draw I would go for max 58 – 60“ ntn, given a flatbow design and osage. The curves in the drawn bow (side view) should be narrow enough to get a bit of the flattening out effect.
Flat back: sorry, but I have no experience by doing a flat back into a convexe back. I think when you do so, you have to work absolute precisely. I'm curious looking forward what you do.
The ridges should be thin enough to reach a little let go (flattening out).
I see the ideal diameter in a good bowwood like osage at about only 2“, with white woods at about 3“.

an HLD- bow is on my "to do- list", but I prefer a high crowned elderberry for my first trial 
be sure I follow this with high interest
